Competition between motor manufacturer in India seems increasingly fierce. Bajaj even to say if Honda in India can only make a mere motor scooter.

Marketing Director of Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj said nearly 55 percent of sales of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) was born from the sale of scooters.

HMSI has a 43 percent market share in the automatic scooter segment and sells three models in this category despite the fact HMSI has seven other models but was only able to contribute by 45 percent.

"There is a growing perception that Honda can only make the scooter only. Customers went to Honda to buy a scooter and come to us for the motor (sport). perception is that Honda can not make motorcycles (sport) and we must maintain that perception," he said like detikOto quotes from BSMotoring, Monday (04/04/2011).

Bajaj itself has a scooter named Krystal whose sales are not so good. Therefore, Bajaj also said they do not plan to go back to that segment.

Bajaj own sales during April 2010 to February 2011 recorded increased to 2,194,522 units. Up 38 percent compared to same period the previous year which only tread the number 1,586,984 units.

While HMSI according to data released 600 000 SIAM motor in the same period or up 53 percent from the previous period.
